What causes hand and wrist pain?
Hand and wrist problems have several common causes, and they are treated quite differently:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome — pressure on a nerve at the wrist, causing numbness and tingling in the fingers, often at night.
- Tendon problems — such as pain at the base of the thumb or along the wrist from overuse.
- Arthritis of the small joints of the hand and wrist.
- Old injuries — a wrist that was sprained or fractured in the past and still hurts.
The classic sign of carpal tunnel
Carpal tunnel syndrome typically causes numbness and tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often worse at night or when holding a phone, book or steering wheel, and sometimes you shake your hand to relieve it. Caught early, it frequently improves with a night splint, activity changes and sometimes an injection — without surgery.
How an online consultation helps
Hand and wrist problems are assessed from your symptoms and by watching how the hand and fingers move — which works well on video. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ali will identify the likely cause, give you a clear plan, and tell you whether you need a splint, an injection, a nerve test or any imaging. Early treatment often prevents a simple problem from becoming a lasting one.

What is carpal tunnel syndrome?
Pressure on a nerve at the wrist, causing numbness, tingling and pain in the thumb, index and middle fingers — often worse at night. It is very common and, caught early, is frequently managed without surgery using a splint, activity changes and sometimes an injection.
Why do my hands go numb or tingle at night?
That is a classic sign of carpal tunnel syndrome, but it can also come from a trapped nerve in the neck or other causes. A consultation identifies the source and the right treatment.
Can hand and wrist pain be treated online?
Yes. It is assessed from your symptoms and how the hand and fingers move — which works well on video. Dr. Ahmed will give you a plan and tell you whether a test, splint or injection is needed.
Does carpal tunnel always need surgery?
No. Many improve with a night splint, activity changes and sometimes an injection, especially early on. Surgery is considered mainly when symptoms are severe or not improving.
How much does a consultation cost?
Rs 5,000 per session — including the video consultation, review of any reports, a diagnosis and treatment plan, and a prescription where appropriate.
