What is osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis means the bones have gradually become thin and weak, so they break more easily — sometimes from just a minor fall or knock. It is often called a "silent" disease, because there are usually no symptoms at all until a bone actually fractures. That is exactly why it is worth assessing risk before a fracture happens.
Who is at risk?
Bone strength naturally declines with age, but several things raise the risk:
- Being older, and especially women after menopause.
- Long-term vitamin D or calcium deficiency — very common in Pakistan.
- An inactive lifestyle, smoking, or long-term steroid medicines.
- A family history of osteoporosis or easy fractures.
How an online consultation helps
Osteoporosis is assessed from your risk factors, any bone-density (DEXA) scan or blood tests, and any past fractures — which works well on a video call. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ali will tell you whether you need testing, and give you a clear plan to strengthen your bones and prevent fractures: the right vitamin D and calcium, weight-bearing exercise, lifestyle changes, and bone-strengthening medicine where it is genuinely needed.

What is osteoporosis?
A condition where bones gradually become thin and weak, so they break more easily — even from a minor fall. It is "silent," with usually no symptoms until a fracture happens. It can be assessed and treated to reduce that risk.
Who is at risk?
Risk rises with age and is higher in women after menopause. Long-term vitamin D or calcium deficiency (very common here), inactivity, smoking, long-term steroids and family history all add to it — often with no warning.
Can osteoporosis be treated?
Yes — with the right vitamin D and calcium, weight-bearing exercise, lifestyle changes and, where needed, bone-strengthening medicine. The aim is stronger bone and, above all, fewer fractures.
Can it be assessed online?
Yes. Dr. Ahmed will review your risk factors, any DEXA scan or blood tests and past fractures, and advise on tests, treatment and protecting your bones.
How much does a consultation cost?
Rs 5,000 per session — including the video consultation, review of any scans or reports, a clear plan, and a prescription where appropriate.
