What counts as a sports or soft-tissue injury?

These are injuries to the muscles, ligaments and tendons rather than the bone itself. They are common not just in athletes but in everyday life — a twist on the stairs, lifting something awkwardly, or a fall. The usual types are:

Sprain or something more serious?

A mild sprain usually settles within days to a couple of weeks. It is worth getting properly assessed if you had severe pain or a "pop" at the moment of injury, a lot of swelling, the joint feels unstable or gives way, or you cannot put weight on it — these can point to a ligament tear that needs the right treatment early.

Go to a hospital now if: the limb looks deformed, you heard a crack and cannot move or bear weight, there is severe swelling straight after an injury, or the skin is broken over the injury — these need urgent in-person care and an X-ray.

How an online consultation helps

Most soft-tissue injuries are assessed from how the injury happened and how the joint now moves — which works well on a video call. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ali will examine your movement, review any scans, and give you a clear plan: what to rest, what to move, whether you need physiotherapy, a brace, or further imaging, and roughly how long recovery should take. The right early advice often prevents a minor injury from becoming a long-term problem.

Sports injuries — common questions

Can a sports injury be treated with an online consultation?

Most sprains, strains and soft-tissue injuries can be assessed online. Dr. Ahmed will watch how the joint moves, review any scans, and tell you whether you need rest, physiotherapy, a brace, further tests or an in-person procedure. A severe injury with deformity or inability to bear weight should be seen at a hospital first.

How do I know if it's a sprain or something more serious?

A mild sprain improves within days to a couple of weeks. Severe pain, a lot of swelling, the joint giving way, inability to bear weight, or a "pop" at injury can indicate a ligament tear. A consultation tells you which it is.

Does RICE work for sports injuries?

Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation help in the first few days to reduce pain and swelling — but it is only first aid. If the injury is not settling or you suspect a tear, get a proper diagnosis so you do not delay the right treatment.

Do ligament injuries always need surgery?

No. Many recover with physiotherapy and rehabilitation; some complete tears in active people may need surgery. Dr. Ahmed will only recommend surgery if it is genuinely right for you.

How much does a consultation cost?

Rs 5,000 per session — including the video consultation, review of any scans, a diagnosis and treatment plan, and a prescription where appropriate.
